5 Fun Free Beach Games for Kids

Fun Beach Games for Kids

The summer isn’t quite over yet! If you plan on fitting in a few more trips to the beach, add in some new beach games while you’re there. We’ve put together a list of 5 fun beach games for you and your kids; and they’re virtually free!

Bucket Race

A classic beach game, all you need is a few buckets to start the fun. Place a large bucket (or dig several holes in the sand). Using smaller buckets, or cups, children race to the water and back to fill up their cup. The first one to fill the bucket, or sand hole, wins!

River Race

Bring a few ping pong balls with you on your next trip to the beach. Make two small, equally long trenches in the sand. Set the ping pong balls at the start of one end – it helps if there is a slight slope to the beach – and have them race to get their ball to the far end. You don’t have to have competing races, children can also work together to make complex river shapes in the sand, and then see how many dumps it takes to get the ping pong balls to the end. (Just make sure the children remember to pick up the balls when they’re done playing, we don’t want them floating out to sea!).

Musical Towels

In this fun version of musical chairs, all you need are your beach towels, and a radio (or smartphone). Play it just like musical chairs, except children have to be on the towels when the music stops. When the game is over, make sure to help shake out the towels; they can get a little sandy!

Tic Tac Toe

Simple, and classic. Just trace out your squares in the sand, and use any object nearby – shells, rocks, sticks – as your X’s and O’s.

Sand Darts

Have the kids trace out a series of increasingly larger circles in the sand. Line up, and toss shells in the middle. Biggest points for the bullseye, of course!
